This famous tourist spot in Udaipur is located just at the banks of the Fateh Sagar Lake, and presents an amazing lush green retreat from the dryness of Rajasthan.

Unique feature of the Sahelion Ki Bari

As per legends it was the King Maharana Sangram Singh who built the garden as a gift to his newly wed wife. She had come from her father’s house with 48 young maids and needed a place for them to have a leisurely time.

• The garden has several unique fountains that were imported specially from England at the time.
• Maharana Bhupal Singh the grandson of Maharana Sangram Singh had later on built a pavilion of rain fountains that further accentuated the beauty of the garden.
• The fountain heads have sculpted birds that sprout water from their beaks, which is a intricate element of design. This design produces almost a rainfall like effect.
• There is a museum inside the garden premises housing the royal dynasties of Mewar’s unique collection of artefacts, paintings and pictures of the historic days.
• The museum also has a collection of taxidermy animals.

History of the Sahelion Ki Bari

The story goes that the king Maharana Sangram Singh’s queen received an accompaniment of 48 maidens with her to follow to her in-laws as dowry. These royal ladies required a place to themselves away from political chaos of the court and time away from the watchful eyes of their subjects. So, the king had the garden built as a gift to his wife and her maidens where they could enjoy lovely evening strolls.
